lessons of a hitchhiker

We found a place to live, HALLELUJAH!  It's across the street from where we are now, at a building called Discovery Bay but over $1000 a month less, and it comes with a parking space!  (parking spaces are really hard and expensive to come by in Honolulu)

Brent and I are both really excited about it.  It's still pretty small, only 1 bedroom, 1 bath, and about 850 square feet, but it just got renovated so everything in it is brand new.  That will be plenty of space for us and Ari, since it will likely be the place where I'll be having my home water birth.  It's also only a short walk to the beach so it will be great to be able able to get walks in and beach time with our sweet baby girl.

Our family bought their tickets to spend Christmas in Hawaii and Brent and I are thrilled!  In Arabic, there's this saying about how there is only "lack of room or tightness in the heart."  The context it's used in is when people complain about the lack of room in someone's house and it's to say that there is always ample room because what really matters is that everyone is together.  We are so excited about having our entire family with us, celebrating Jesus, meeting Ari for the first time, all in our itty bitty condominium.

On our weekending trip around the island of Oahu, we picked up a hitchhiker in the Northshore area.

His name is Kavaika and he was 16 years old, born and raised in Hawaii.  His life story was so seriously amazing and uplifting.  His dad was murdered when he was younger and his mom died shortly thereafter.  Most of his uncles either spent some time in jail or were currently still serving time.  He was homeless and lived on the beach with friends when he was just 12 or 13!  He kept saying, "I promise it sounds a lot worse that it is."  I mean...really?  Kavaika blew us away with his optimism and positive outlook on life.  He was so upbeat, full of life, and so thankful for the things that he had, which did not include a cell phone, mom & dad, or even a home.  It was such an important reminder from such a young person to be grateful for all that we have been blessed with, and also to always to give back.

All Kavaika needed to be happy were his friends, his surf board, and the water.  God bless him.

Doesn't it make you really want to re-evaluate your life and think about just 3 things that you would need to be happy?

My 3 things are God, my husband Brent + family, and my guitar.

And of course, our sweet baby girl Ari.

1 Thessalonians 5:18  "in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

Psalm 69:30 "I will praise the name of God with song, And shall magnify Him with thanksgiving."

Happy living y'all.
